Delirium by Lauren Oliver (2010)
" I love you. Remember. They cannot take it away."
There was a time when love was the most important thing in the world. People would go to the end of the earth to find it. They would tell lies for it. Even kill for it. Then, at last, they found the cure. Now, everything is different. Scientists are able to eradicate love, and the government demands that all citizens receive the cure upon turning eighteen. Lena Haloway has always looked forward to the day when she'll be cured. A life without love is a life without pain: safe, measured, predictable, and happy. But then, with only ninety-five days left until her treatment, Lena does the unthinkable ; she falls in love.
Lauren Oliver makes a world where love is a disease. Love is something feared of and now they have the cure. To end hurt. To end love.
I know what your thinking.WOW! You're mind probably just exploded. x)
In short, when Lena Haloway falls in love it changes her world and her own perspective. Oliver showed me how love wasn't just the affection and pleasure, but also the sacrifice and grief. What is life without love, joy, and pain?
It was my first dystopian story I read, but it was easy to imagine. The world she created wasn't too far from ours. Except the crazy government permitting love as a disease, having curfews, and closing the borders of America. Nothing much. :p
But as for romance - absolutley gorgeous. The chemistry between Alex and Lena was perfect. The risks they take for their love was breathtaking. It definitley fell in that fantasy love. The kind of everyone strives for.It came down to Romeo and Juliet really. The commitment and intensity. Adored it!
After reading this beautifully written book,I saw love in a whole new perspective myself. So totally reccommended. :D
Gosh! I can't stop thanking Lauren for creating this world. But besides that, I fell for it. I was infected with amor deliria nervosa.
And not only did Lauren write that but she is also releasing a sequel to Delirium named Pandemonium!
And a short story named Hana based off of Lena's best friend in Delirium! She is too sweet.
But if you want to get all the latest news on the delirium trilogy go here.
Thanks for reading and if you haven't yet read Delirium I recommend it! Seriously. Go now. Buy it. Haha! Kidding.
